“The data and the analytics isn't going to matter on that first tee when there's 40,000 fans screaming at you.” - Kaptain Keegan. So pumped.

Ryder Cup Reax
 O KAPTAIN, MY KAPTAIN
Fresh from PGA HQ in Frisco, Texas this week came Kaptain Keegan's Ryder Cup picks. Joining Scottie, JJ, Xander, Russell Henley, Harris English, and Bryson are the final six of Team USA.

7) Justin Thomas - probably shedding a tear that his pal Jordan didn't make it but quite impressive that he was able to earn a spot back in the no-doubter category after a few years ago.

8) Collin Morikawa - recent form may be a bit misleading, he's still an insane irons player and competitive AF.

9) Ben Griffin - Ryder rookie who won the Zurich Classic pairs tournament with Andrew Novak so there is some record of success format-wise.

10) Cameron Young - our second Ryder rookie and Bethpage local who should know the ins and outs better than anyone else.

11) Patrick Cantlay - years ago I likely mentioned this phenomenon but he (and Patrick Reed) fit the "Devendorf Principle" perfectly. For those who don't remember a principle that I literally made up myself... allow me to explain. The Devendorf Principle is when an athlete inspires rage-like reactions in most everyone but when said athlete is on your team—they're heroes. The name was inspired by Syracuse basketball star of the late 2000's Eric Devendorf. Additional examples include Joakim Noah, Draymond Green, and Tom Brady.

12) Sam Burns - a curious selection. But he's to putting what Morikawa is to irons.

Does this crew leap off the screen and inspire me? Not really. On the other hand, we should select a team of the golfers currently playing their best. And this is what we've got.

I do think it would've been fun to see Kaptain Keegan play. But I agree with the opinions that it was a noble thing for him to forego and focus on running the team. He seems 100% locked in and I have to imagine the team will be ready to go defend his (and our) honor.

Plus, the great equalizer will be the crowds and Bethpage better be rockin'!

Any of you planning on attending? Hit me up and let me know the plans!
Ryder Cup Reax: Part Two
IT'S GIVING A FRIDAY ZOOM MEETING AT 4PM
We can all debate the pros and cons of selecting a Sam Burns over a Brian Harman. And while I loved the suggestion of creating the ultimate ice team in Harman and Cantlay to drive Team Euro nuts... what do any of us know about how these guys will perform and who might have performed better? Nothing.

What I do know is that press conference Zoom screen reveal on Wednesday of Team USA was brutal.

I was DYING as the memes started flowing. Screenshots of the team looking about as stone faced and unenthused as a Zoom meeting at 4p on a Friday. I mean, fellas, you're ON CAMERA!

At least set the boys up with some set dressing. Maybe a US flag or wall graphic they could sit in front of? Perhaps some gear to wear? Literally anything.
The 2000s are back baby
 USHER AND TI GO GOLFING???
Golf is SO HOT right now. With Lebron (and Bronny) posting increasing amounts of golf content this offseason and now a Revolt Sports video of TI and Usher playing together—I'm continually excited to see that the post-COVID golf bump continues to gain steam.

It turns out that getting outside, walking around beautiful parks, hanging out with good friends, and playing an infuriatingly difficult yet infinitely satisfying game is something that most people can get into.

The best part of the video linked above was TI ribbing Usher the entire time. Plenty of wonky looking putts, a topped iron shot, and a wild driver swing from TI—this is a pair that just loves the game.
Cold Case Closed
A SERIAL GOLF THIEF GETS NABBED
I don't know why golf-related crimes amuse me so much. Like of all the places to try and rob, you chose a couple handfuls of clubs from the local pro shop? Pushing on.

The story here is that a New York man was recently arrested in connection with a string of robberies at local golf courses and pro shops. The original heist occurred in Connecticut about a year prior but "the case went cold."

“Through investigation, Matthew Berman was developed as a possible suspect after he was arrested by New York authorities for similar golf pro shop burglaries that had been committed within their state.”

Love the phrasing here. Let's break this down. Matthew was arrested for similar golf-related burglaries. After said arrest and "through investigation" they were basically like, hmmm I bet he did more of these. Let's Police Google similar golf robberies. Yep, there was one just over the border in Connecticut.

“Evidence was subsequently developed by the investigating Westport detective reportedly linking Berman to the Longshore incident.”

Evidence was "developed." Not discovered. Not found. Not uncovered. The quote is more or less the equivalent of them shrugging their shoulders and tacking on a few more. This perspective from me also may be a result of watching the new Amanda Knox series on Hulu as she gets completely steamrolled by the Italian police.

And best yet, Berman ended up just turning himself in anyways.

Crime never pays.
